SHOW ME

Audio+   =  a Philosophical Audiophile

Ok, I admit it -- I'm an audiophile. I also love music. Recently, I've delved into audio to try new music, find new sounds. I've had the chance to audition a lot of things and put together a system. I've tried to learn about how equipment works, what kinds of technologies result in perceptible differences, and how can those qualities be formulated in words?

I've now tried my hand at a couple speaker reviews:
  • Review of Fritz Carbon 7 SE Mk2 speakers: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/review-fritz-heiler-s-carbon-7-se-mk-2-bookshelf-speakers
  • Review of Fritz Carrera speakers: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/review-fritz-heiler-s-carrera-be-bookshelf-speakers
I have also been thinking about how philosophy and audio might be fit together.
Here are some sample questions:
  • Are there philosophical assumptions made which underpin some of audiophile debates?
  • What is required of attention to listen to music? Do the aesthetics of music benefit by attending to their sonic character? Does content follow form in this way?
  • How does the rise of "ubiquitous" listening (in the car, as background, etc.) affect "critical" listening?
  • What is the relation of noise pollution, generally, to attention to the quality of sound in audio?
  • Why is the audiophile hobby predominantly populated by males? Why is it gear-centric?

My Stuff

Below are some pieces of equipment and setups I've been playing around with.

They've contributed to my musical and audiophile education.
Most important is what I've learned from audiophiles around the world.
